Without question, Swiss Post has benefited from the additional boost to online retailing since the start of the Corona crisis. But the German group believes the trend will continue.
The booming parcel and shipping business provided Deutsche Post with a tidy jump in profits in the second quarter of 2021. Net profit after minority interests more than doubled to 1.3 billion euros, Swiss Post announced on Thursday. Operating income climbed to two billion euros.
Sales also increased, rising by 22.2 percent to 19.5 billion euros. The Bonn-based group had already presented preliminary figures for the period from April to June at the beginning of July and adjusted its forecast for 2021 and its medium-term targets upwards.
The lockdown in the Corona crisis had given a big boost to online retail. More and more consumers are ordering their goods on the Internet, and logistics companies are delivering them. The e-commerce boom is expected to last, according to CEO Frank Appel.
