US electric car maker Lucid says it will start delivering luxury vehicles with a longer range than Tesla to customers in late October.
The first vehicle to be available is the top-of-the-line Lucid Air Dream Edition, priced at $169,000. Cheaper models should be available in the future. The relevant U.S. agency has certified a version of the Air Dream as having a range of 520 miles (837 kilometers) per battery charge, more than 100 miles more than the comparable Tesla Model S. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had most recently stated that his company was backing away from a vehicle with a 520-mile range.
The challenge now is to get a grip on the production processes. But Tesla also had to struggle massively with production difficulties in the early days. Even Musk had recently admitted that it was extremely difficult to build profitable cars.
