Unity Software Inc. (trading as Unity Technologies) is a U.S. video game software development company based in San Francisco. Unity Technologies was founded in Copenhagen in 2004 by Icelander David Helgason, Dane Nicholas Francis and German Joachim Ante under the name Over the Edge and renamed Unity Technologies in 2007. Unity Technologies is best known for developing the Unity game engine, which is used to create video games and other applications. The company has offices in Europe, North America and Asia. In 2020, apps created by Unity were used by 2 billion monthly active users, with 1.5 million monthly creators.
Around 2 billion monthly users accessed Unity Software’s applications in 2020. No wonder, then, that the stock has risen a strong 36 percent since August.
Whether mobile games, interactive media content or augmented reality: The software giant from San Francisco has successively opened up new markets over the years and is one of the absolute world leaders in the gaming market, not least thanks to its “Unity 3D” game engine.
