The bears prevailed over the bulls in securities trading today. The S&P 500 was down 2.29 percent. The selection index is currently valued at 4,330 points.
So far this calendar year, the S&P 500’s record is positive. The index has gained 15.93 percent since the beginning of January. With 500 stocks, the S&P 500 calculated by Standard & Poor’s is one of the most comprehensive stock indices in the world. The S&P 500 provides a representative picture of the U.S. economy through its broad positioning and fixed numbers of stocks from specific industries. Only stocks are included in which at least half of the shares are in free float and which reach or exceed a certain market capitalization.
Market capitalization is also the decisive factor in the weighting of stocks in the index.
The S&P 500 was introduced on May 4, 1957.
Among the stocks in the S&P 500, shares of Invesco, Nucor and Devon Energy stand out negatively.
The price list of securities in the index is currently led by the shares of American Airlines, Incyte and CenterPoint Energy.
